silent nightDayLight Scripture – Mordecai went out from the king’s presence in a blue and white royal robe wearing a large gold crown and a white and red-purple coat. The city of Susa greeted him with shouts of joy. For the Jews it was a day of light, happiness, joy, and honor. In every province and in every town—wherever the king’s order and his law arrived—for the Jews it was a day of happiness and joy. For them it meant feasts and a holiday.

Esther 8: 15-17a

DayLight Prayer – Lord, Thank you for winter days that are both crisp and bright. We all need your light; I know that I do. Thank you for Jesus, who is the light of our world.  Everywhere we hear of him, let us be reminded that it is a day of happiness, joy and honor! Amen.

When Paul, Barnabus and the others arrived in Jerusalem, the church, the apostles, and the elders all welcomed them. They gave a full report of what God had accomplished through their activity.

Acts 15:4

DayLight Prayer – Lord, today has had me reeling at times. When a dear saint is laid to rest, my heart breaks because she is gone, but my soul rejoices for her blessed freedom and rest from this life. Help me in these times God to be a voice of hope and comfort. I am grateful for the honor of knowing and loving so many of your children.  Amen.

DayLight Scripture –  Wherever the river flows, every living thing that moves will thrive. There will be great schools of fish, because when these waters enter the sea, it will be fresh. Wherever the river flows, everything will live.

Ezekiel 47:9

DayLight Prayer – Great creator, where exactly is this great river of yours. The one that is called the River of Life. I suspect that I am in it, for when I’m swimming here, I do feel alive, my spirit refreshed. I pray, Lord, keep me moving, keep me in the fresh streams of your mercy and love, and fill me up with that same mercy and love, so that everywhere I go I can share it…or as a good Methodist…sprinkle it. I love you, Lord.  Amen.

DayLight Scripture – You, Lord, are my portion, my cup; you control my destiny. The property lines have fallen beautifully for me; yes, I have a lovely home. I will bless the Lord who advises me; even at night I am instructed in the depths of my mind.

Psalm 16: 5-7

DayLight Prayer – Lord, is it any wonder we are moved when we experience your presence? I pray for anyone who has never known that they have encountered you. Who, in their ignorance are unaware of your creative ways, as you paint the red sunsets for us, and capture the lightening for a thunderous show  and list and loll the seas for the crashing waves.  If only they could know, know that they have encountered you, they would be changed just as I have been.  I bless you, O Lord, and I thank you for your majesty.  Amen.

DayLight Scripture – The right word at the right time is like precious gold set in silver.

Proverbs 25:11

DayLight Prayer – God, your wisdom simply amazes me. I’ll be looking for just the right thing to say, and I’m clueless. Then, most of the time it’s a tiny pleading for help uttered hurriedly to you and me blurting out whatever comes to mind.  It is only later that I realize that what you gave me in that instant was spot on. I’m just so grateful that you are here for the little stuff as well as the big stuff.  Amen.

DayLight Scripture – No one has control over the life-breath, to retain it, and there’s no control over the day of death. There’s no release from warring, and wickedness won’t deliver those who practice it.

Ecclesiastes 8: 8

DayLight Prayer – Dear Lord, Blanket me with your peace. Help me to relinquish my desires to your desires, my focus to your focus, and my intentions to your will.  Are you willing to move me with your Holy Spirit? It is the only way I can become Holy. Amen.

DayLight Scripture – In righteousness you answer us, by your awesome deeds, God of our salvation— you, who are the security of all the far edges of the earth, even the distant seas.

Psalm 65:5

DayLight Prayer – Dear Lord, when I am confounded by the thoughts in my head and the longings of my heart, I call out to you, for I need the security of your presence. My gratefulness can never match you, who are matchless. None -the-less, I am grateful for your outpouring of awesome love. Amen.

DayLight Scripture – The poor man died and was carried by angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.

Luke 16:22

DayLight Prayer – Lord, I heard today that you send angels to bring us the presence and love of God. Even through the darkest of rainy days, when the fog is as thick and murky as milk, I am thankful for the angels you send. Amen.

DayLight Scripture – Honoring the Lord is correct, lasting forever.
The Lord’s judgments are true.  All of these are righteous!
They are more desirable than gold—than tons of pure gold!
They are sweeter than honey—even dripping off the honeycomb!
No doubt about it:  your servant is enlightened by them; there is great reward in keeping them.

Psalm 18: 9-11

DayLight Prayer – Gracious Lord. How may I honor you today? When I feel sick, head-achy, and like I just want to go back to bed? Do I honor you in resting? Do I honor you in giving into my own needs rather than seeing to others? Do I honor you when I forsake the trivial meeting, the neatly prepared script, the should-dos, the supposed-to-dos, the practices of pastor extraordinaire? Huh!? Well, I was just wondering. Bless me Lord, I pray.  Amen.

DayLight Scripture -That’s how it goes for anyone who honors the Lord: they will be blessed!

Psalm 128:4

DayLight Prayer – God, we didn’t get any snow today, but I know you will send us some soon. Your work with nature simply delights me, and sometimes astounds me, and sometimes it frightens me. But through it all, I am safe within your care. You bless me, and may I bless you, in the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
