About Judy Eurey

In my life I am a wife to Ed, a mom to Amanda and Charles, Mimi to Sara and Jessy, and Judy to my friends and family. In 2019 I retired from pastoral ministry and have settled into my new normal. Frankly I love being retired. Unless otherwise noted, the Scripture passages used on my blog DayLight are my own paraphrased interpretations. I invite you to verify, dispute and otherwise comment. I am open to discussion.

DayLight Scripture –  The sun rises with its scorching heat and dries up the grass so that its flowers fall and its beauty is lost. Just like that, in the midst of their daily lives, the wealthy will waste away.

James 1:11

DayLight Prayer – Wonderful Creator, who makes the beauty of every day complete, forgive us when we misplace our love and our desire for things that will never last. Help us to hold on to faith, character, peacefulness, making ourselves better and more like you. Amen.

yellDayLight Scripture –  I have the freedom to do anything, but not everything is helpful. I have the freedom to do anything, but I won’t be controlled by anything.

1 Corinthians 6:12

DayLight Prayer – Lord, We live in a world where people are feel free to express themselves in all kinds of ways, not all helpful. Lord make us aware, keep humility in our hearts, and fill us with love. That way our expressions will help and not hurt, heal and not kill.  Amen.

Spiritual giftsDayLight Scripture –  There are different spiritual gifts but the same Spirit;  and there are different ministries and the same Lord;  and there are different activities but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.

1 Corinthians 12: 4-6

DayLight Prayer – Lord, It is amazing that you give all of us gifts to be used in your kingdom. Today my prayer is for those who do not believe Paul’s words, who believe that God left them out when God was giving out the gifts. Help them to see through a nugget of faith that they have indeed not been left out, but have been given a unique gift that is all their own to use in your kingdom. Give them the courage to discover it and use it! Amen.

What is your spiritual gift?

Sawssan Abdelwahab, who fled Idlib in Syria, walks with her children outside the refugees camp near the Turkish-Syrian border in YayladagiDayLight Scripture –  When you harvest your land’s produce, you must not harvest all the way to the edge of your field; and don’t gather every remaining bit of your harvest. Leave these items for the poor and the immigrant; I am the Lord your God.

Leviticus 23:22

DayLight Prayer – Lord, Today my prayer is for the many who are struggling to find food, shelter and safety. I know that lack of these basic needs brings despair, fear and heartbreak. God help us to be aware of our ability to help, and fill us with courage to act to help in ways that bring dignity and honor.  Amen.

child-hand-cuts-out-adult-hand-skyDayLight Scripture –  You are saved by God’s grace because of your faith. This salvation is God’s gift. It’s not something you possessed.  It’s not something you did that you can be proud of.

Ephesians 2: 8-9

DayLight Prayer – Lord, You are the awesome God who loves us in spite of our meanness, our cruelty, our blatant irreverence, and our sins. Through your gift, you have saved us. Give us faith to know, to experience and to accept your grace.  Amen.

slingDayLight Scripture –  David said, “All those gathered here will know that the Lord does not save by means of sword and spear. The Lord owns this war, and he will hand all of you over to us.”

1 Samuel 17: 47

DayLight Prayer – Lord, today I pray for all of us who are afraid of a giant that we are facing; that one where the odds for success against it are overwhelmingly against us. Fill us with courage and the faith of David, who said…you own this war…or in other words, you got this.   Amen.

1 Samuel 3:10

DayLight Prayer – Dear Lord, I know that your love continues to call us all. Yet over and over we can’t discern your voice. God, help us to hear and respond in the ways you want us to, because if we don’t follow you, then we follow in vain. Bless all your children who are obedient to you.  Amen.

Afghanistan-children-Bami-001DayLight Scripture – Some people brought children to Jesus so that he would place his hands on them and pray. But the disciples scolded them. “Allow the children to come to me,” Jesus said. “Don’t forbid them, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to people like these children.” Then he blessed the children and went away from there.

Matthew 19: 13-5

DayLight Prayer – Dear Lord, Today I focus my prayer on children. For all those who feel left out, send them friends. For all those who are hungry, provide them with adequate nourishment. For all those who suffer from illness, bring them healing. For all those whose lives are fearful, give them a sense of love, peace and comfort. For all who are homeless, place them in a stable home. For all who are orphans, find them parents. For all who lack means for education, healthcare, and the things that make childhood good, help us all to work hard to help those who cannot help themselves. All the children of the earth.  Amen.
