Can grief feel like an anvil on my heart? Like a black-out curtain over my day? Like a rock in the pit of my stomach? It must be grief that I am feeling, but why? Who knows why, Lord. Who knows why? I cry to you…have mercy on me and give me your understanding for mine has failed me. Direct me to the healing and peace that I need, I pray in Jesus’ name.. Amen.

Most Holy One, What a blessed promise your word has for me today. My soul rejoices. I am reminded that I can rest completely in the knowledge and assurance found in your words. You have promised to keep me from evil, preserve my soul and protect me forever! Thanks be you, most gracious and merciful God. Amen.

Lord, I know that today there are people everywhere who are suffering. Grief, pain, loneliness, hunger, fear and despondency run rampant through the world. I pray today for people who are feeling like you have abandoned them. I know you have not. I know you are just beyond where they can see you or feel you. I pray, Lord, that somehow in your mercy, you sustain them and give them precious rest. Amen.

DayLight Prayer –

Sweet and merciful Father, Allow me today to have your grace working through my words and actions. Help me to remember how you called me into this work and ministry for the sake of your church and for the sake of the world. Show me also the back seat, where I can sit and watch you work through others for the glory of Jesus, the Christ of our salvation. Amen.

DayLight Prayer –

Great God, Thank you for the friendships in my life; those people who love me in spite of my foibles, those who laugh with me, and those who cry with me. What a poor state I would be in if you had not sent them my way. They say that one cannot choose one’s family, which is true most of the time. But friends, I believe, are chosen by you and sent our way and are evidence of your great mercy in our lives. Thank you Lord! Amen.

Lord, Many people will be dreading this day because of superstitions that run amuck in our world. But I ask today that instead, let us rejoice in a day that you have given us; the day you rule and reign over. Show your great kindness and mercy and direct us on our journey. Amen
