goodness_sketchDayLight Scripture – The people who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion: never shaken, lasting forever.

Psalm 125: 1

DayLight Prayer – I pray today for the strength and wisdom that you have Lord, or at least a small portion. Protect me in my comings and goings, and help me take care to do the good all day. Amen.

eye4eyeDayLight Scripture – You have heard that it was said, You must love your neighbor and hate your enemy.  But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who harass you.

Matthew 5: 43-44

DayLight Prayer – I know what you said, Lord, but for me it is really hard to pray for my harassers! I have a tendency to fume and falter and fail. May your Holy Spirit give me what I need to remember your words, because I do desire to be better to people than they are to me. I need you, Lord. Amen.

chagall2254 Issachar

DayLight Scripture – Issachar is a sturdy donkey, bedding down beside the village hearths. He saw that a resting place was good  and that the land was pleasant. He lowered his shoulder to haul loads and joined the work gangs.

Genesis 49:14-15

DayLight Prayer – Sweet Father, Today I remember that all of us are called to lower our shoulders and join the work gang. I know that I speculate that what I do is of very little value. Yet I know that as your child whatever I do with a pure heart will honor you. Give me a pure heart I pray. Amen.

Chained Christ

From Wired Up North State Books

DayLight Scripture – God brought them out from the darkness and deep gloom;
he shattered their chains.

Psalm 107:14

DayLight Prayer – Lord, I am reminded today of all the saints who are suffering for the faith. I pray for them and ask that you remedy their suffering, and more, that what they have suffered increases their faith and willingness to speak for justice in the world. Amen.

portrait-collage-09DayLight Scripture – Don’t try to make yourselves beautiful on the outside, with stylish hair or by wearing gold jewelry or fine clothes. Instead, make yourselves beautiful on the inside, in your hearts, with the enduring quality of a gentle, peaceful spirit. This type of beauty is very precious in God’s eyes.

1 Peter 3: 3-4

DayLight Prayer – Lord, I am so grateful that you don’t judge me by my outside beauty, my stylish hair, my jewels, or beautiful clothes…because I’d flunk out. Thank you God for giving me any measure of grace and beauty I have at all. Bless me with your love, and judge me with your mercy. Amen.

peter-preachingDayLight Scripture – I entrust my spirit into your hands; you, Lord, God of faithfulness — you have saved me.

Psalm 31:5

DayLight Prayer – Oh God. I know that all of us will one day cross over from this life to the life waiting for us with you. Lord, indeed you have saved me, and save us all. It’s just that some of us wander around not knowing that you have. Help me to spread that Good News in such a way that if I encounter someone who doesn’t yet know, that they can hear that news and welcome you and your salvation. Amen.

gentlenessDayLight Scripture  – Conduct yourselves with all humility, gentleness, and patience. Accept each other with love.

Ephesians 4:2

DayLight Prayer – Dear Lord, I know that I am not gentle and patient much. I am never humble. So I’m sorry. Help me to feel for others as you do, and help me to see others as you do, with total and complete love and acceptance. I’m sure encountering others with your love will help me with that humility, gentleness and above all patience. Amen.

school_of_fishDayLight Scripture – Wherever the river flows, every living thing that moves will thrive. There will be great schools of fish, because when these waters enter the sea, it will be fresh. Wherever the river flows, everything will live.

Ezekiel 47:9

DayLight Prayer – Lord, It’s obvious isn’t it? When water is stagnant, there is no life. Help me today to let your living water flow through me, so I will be alive. Amen.

button_enemiesDayLight Scripture – If your enemies are starving, feed them some bread; if they are thirsty, give them water to drink.

Proverbs 25:21

DayLight Prayer – Dear God of grace and mercy, I admit that feeding an enemy is not something that I readily do. It seems like a backward approach to having what I want most, which is peace. But I get you. You want me to show mercy and kindness, so that on the off-chance, they may see some good in me and be open.  So help me God, and I will try to love my enemies like I know you love them. Amen.
