About Judy Eurey

In my life I am a wife to Ed, a mom to Amanda and Charles, Mimi to Sara and Jessy, and Judy to my friends and family. In 2019 I retired from pastoral ministry and have settled into my new normal. Frankly I love being retired. Unless otherwise noted, the Scripture passages used on my blog DayLight are my own paraphrased interpretations. I invite you to verify, dispute and otherwise comment. I am open to discussion.

Image result for clanging cymbalDaylight Scripture –  If I speak human or angelic languages but do not have love, I am a sounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

1 Corinthians 13:1

Daylight Prayer – Lord, oh how my heart hurts when I see and hear the words that we say to one another. They impale my spirit, hurt my feelings and leave me feeling like we humans have forgotten how to be kind. Today I ask you to help us be kind. Even in our disagreements, which I admit are many and harsh, help us to remember that when we speak (or write) we are speaking to people, not the air. We speak to people you love. Amen.

Daylight Scripture – The light of the moon will be like the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be seven times brighter—like the light of seven days—on the day that the Lord bandages the people’s brokenness and heals the wounds inflicted by the blows of his judgment on sin.

Isaiah 30:26

Daylight Prayer – Lord, since the beginning you have tried to save us from the judgments that are upon us because of our sin. You have reached out to enlighten us, enfold us in love, and entreaty us to do good. But we are so stubborn. We seem to be unable to wake up to the fact that we are the root of our own problems! Lord have mercy on us…and especially on me. Continue to try to reach us. Your loving kindness (hesed) lasts forever…I am so thankful for that! Amen.

Daylight Scripture –  Even today, whenever scripture is read, a veil lies over the heart. But whenever someone turns back to the Lord, the veil is removed.

2 Corinthians 3:15

Daylight Prayer – Holy Lord. Thank you for the word of God, the Bible. Even though I stumble across much that is there, I am grateful that we have something that tells and shows us about our life with you from the beginning to the end: the whole story. Drench me in your Holy Spirit when I am reading your scripture so that I don’t stumble quite so much. That is my prayer. Amen.

Sirach 23:19

Daylight Prayer – Lord, what am I hiding from you? Is it my tendency to ignore the plight of the poor? Is it my willingness to look around the sins I see? Is it my over-filled and messed up agenda? Is it the time I waste? The money I flit away? The lack of faith I have? Help me Lord. Amen.

Proverbs 4:18

Daylight Prayer – Lord I thank you for this bright day, where the sun has drenched me with warm winter light. It is on days like this that I remember the great light you also bring to my soul. The proverb writer gives me hope that as my life continues in your righteousness (which is all I have) that the way will get brighter and brighter. Lord, thank you for light in my life. Shine in the dark places of the world, and illuminate the heavy-hearted with your bright and warm Spirit. Amen.

Isaiah 9: 2

Daylight Prayer – Lord, some days can be so dim. It feels like the life has been drained out of them, and we must simply endure the minutes of them like one endures heartache. When those days come to pass, let us see the light of your presence in some little way, so that we can keep moving, keep living, keep learning. Amen.

1 Peter 3:4

Daylight Prayer – Lord, I am thankful you made each of us unique, with different physical characteristics, temperaments, personalities, and experiences. Instead of letting those differences separate us, help us to embrace each other in love and show the world how to live in peace. Amen.

Daylight Scripture – The light was in the world, and the world came into being through the light, but the world didn’t recognize the light.

John 1:10
Daylight Prayer – Lord, as we live from day to day, the darkness will try to overwhelm us in such slick and deceptive ways. We ask that you make us slick with wisdom to not only perceive the light, but to recognize and live in it. Amen.
