Daylight Scripture – Instead, Jonah ran from the Lord. He went to the seaport of Joppa and bought a ticket on a ship that was going to Spain. Then he got on the ship and sailed away to escape.

Jonah 1:3

Daylight Prayer – Dear Lord, today I pray for all who are unhappy with the calling you have given them. You send us to people whom we know you want to have mercy on, but our mercy does not match yours. Rather, we would rather go to Spain!  Help us Lord. For all of us who are dismayed, discouraged, discontent, burned-out and weary, renew our joy and refresh our calling. Get us out of the dark and smelly places we have run to. Amen.

Daylight Prayer – Lord, who is among us, I lift up to you those who are doubting the promises you have made. Give them renewed hope and confidence in your word. Help them to remember all the times you have brought them from places of hurt, despair, and grief; how you have kept them fed, homed, and comfortable; and when you showed them joy, gave them a family and friends to sit beside them. I need you to help me remember today too. Amen.

Matthew 8:26

Daylight Prayer – My prayer today is for people who are waiting for the end of their life to come. No knowing exactly, buy knowing, for their health is grave. As they gallantly take on their days, help them to cope with the fears and dread that may creep into their hearts and minds because of the unknown they face. Help them to remember that you calm storms, not just in the sea, but in the heart and mind too. Give them faith. Help them to trust in your presence. Help them to be in touch with your strength for their journey. Amen.

Genesis 8:22

Daylight Prayer – Beautiful Creator, I have read about your creative power. The earth that you have made holds more wonder than we will ever know. Today I pray for people who must be out in the elements doing the work that you have called them to. Be with them, and encourage them. As they endure the cold, wind, rain and snow, help them to envision spring and the warm breezes of summer. You have promised it. Amen.

Psalm 18:28

Daylight Prayer – Lord, I pray for all of us who are experiencing difficult times. We know the days aren’t as bright as we want them to be. Help us to remember that the light and freedom that seems just beyond our reach, is you calling to us; you waiting for us to let go of ourselves and be present with you. Show us the way out of all darkness. Pull us free of anything, anyone, who is holding us in the dimness of life. Amen.

Isaiah 26:3

Daylight Prayer – Wonderful Lord, I have peace because of you. My trust does not outweigh my trouble. Most days. God I pray for your mercy when my trust wears thin, when I hear words that hurt, when my body is tired, when I have been ignored, when I have let you down. I ask you to lift me up, to restore my full trust. I pray that you will once again fill my heart with the peace that only you…only you…only you can give. Amen.
