Daylight Scripture – God is our refuge and strength, a help always near in times of great trouble. That’s why we won’t be afraid when the world falls apart, when the mountains crumble into the center of the sea, when its waters roar and rage, when the mountains shake because of its surging waves.

Daylight Prayer – Gracious God, I am grateful that I can be certain of your great power and protection. Today I pray for people who do not know the blessing of the safety of your love, mercy, and care. Thank you for continuing to seek them with your perfect grace. Anoint us who know to the work in your kingdom. Amen.

Daylight Prayer – My prayer today is for all people who are at work making disciples, being pastors, teachers, missionaries, and friends. God bless and strengthen each one of them. Fill them with good news to tell. Amen.

Daylight Scripture – So, even in my old age with gray hair, don’t abandon me, God! Not until I tell generations about your mighty arm, tell all who are yet to come about your strength, and about your ultimate righteousness, God, because you’ve done awesome things! Who can compare to you, God?

Daylight Prayer – Lord, today I pray for those of us whose wisdom has been gained in the land of hard knocks and trial and error. Help us when we believe our life has little to teach others that you have indeed given us a witness of grace to share. God bless us gray ones with boldness to speak of your great love. Amen.

Daylight Scripture – Be my rock of refuge where I can always escape. You commanded that my life be saved because you are my rock and my fortress.

Psalm 71:3

Daylight Prayer – Lord, I pray today for anybody who is seeking refuge from the storms of life. Give them the courage to call on you, and bless the with the assurance of your care and love. Amen.

Daylight Scripture – Announce! Approach! Confer together! Who proclaimed this from the beginning, announced it from long ago? Wasn’t it I, the Lord? There’s no other God except me, a righteous God and a savior; there’s none besides me!

Isaiah 45:21

Daylight Prayer – Lord, I am grateful for all those who are at work serving us in stores, restaurants, resorts, police cars, fire trucks, EMS vehicles and in all the other places where persons are not having a holiday. May they be well rewarded for their time, and bless them on this Labor Day. Amen.

Daylight Scripture – Therefore, if you were raised with Christ, look for the things that are above where Christ is sitting at God’s right side. Think about the things above and not things on earth.

Colossians 3:1-2

Daylight Prayer – Lord, today my prayer is for those who are confused, frightened, and struggling with their thoughts and feelings. Send to them the strength of your Holy Spirit and enable them to think of you and encourage them to call on you for understanding. Amen.

Daylight Scripture – Remain in me, and I will remain in you. A branch can’t produce fruit by itself, but must remain in the vine. Likewise, you can’t produce fruit unless you remain in me.

John 15: 4

Daylight Prayer – Gracious Lord, today my prayer is for those who are desperately attempting to stay connected to you, the vine of all life. Give them strength to hold on in the midst of the storm they are facing. Amen.

Daylight Scripture – For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Daylight Prayer – Lord, ours is the task of following your commandment to love others as much as we love ourselves. For those of us who find it so difficult to do, let your Holy Spirit give us the power to follow that commandment as you do. Amen.

Daylight Scripture – You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.

Matthew 5:13

Daylight Prayer – Lord, today I pray for those whose saltiness is fading. Gracious one, anoint them today with a special grace. Strengthen their seasoning. Enable them to be the salt you need for the world around them. Amen.

Daylight Prayer – Lord, hear my prayer for this moment. I pray for the creation of earth that was imagined, designed and brought into being through your power. Help me to join those in the world who love you to treat it and its inhabitants with honor and the awe deserving of your great craft. Amen.
