About Judy Eurey

In my life I am a wife to Ed, a mom to Amanda and Charles, Mimi to Sara and Jessy, and Judy to my friends and family. In 2019 I retired from pastoral ministry and have settled into my new normal. Frankly I love being retired. Unless otherwise noted, the Scripture passages used on my blog DayLight are my own paraphrased interpretations. I invite you to verify, dispute and otherwise comment. I am open to discussion.

DayLight Scripture –

Then Samuel said to the whole house of Israel, “If you are turning to the Lord with all your heart, then get rid of all the foreign gods and the Astartes you have. Set your heart on the Lord! Worship him only! Then he will deliver you from the Philistines’ power.”  So the Israelites got rid of the Baals and the Astartes and worshipped the Lord only.

1 Samuel 7: 3-4

DayLight Prayer – Lord, I know that when my mind drifts towards the numerous gods that are available to worship, then I stand just like the Israelites, at risk of being without the power of deliverance that is available to me in you. Lord, keep me from all that is desperately deceiving, and help me to rely solely on you. Let my worship be to you and to you alone.   Amen.

DayLight Scripture –

This is what the Lord says: What wrong did your ancestors find in me that made them wander so far? They pursued what was worthless and became worthless.

Jeremiah 5:2

DayLight Prayer – Lord, I know that every generation must find their way to you. Some of us do, and some of us wander. Since there are so very many worthless things around us, help us to see the good, and do the good, that which will be pleasing to you. Forbid Lord that we become worthless because of what we embrace.  Amen.

DayLight Scripture –

Jesus sent the twelve out to proclaim God’s kingdom and to heal the sick.  He told them, “Take nothing for the journey—no walking stick, no bag, no bread, no money, not even an extra shirt.

Luke 9: 2-3

DayLight Prayer – Lord, forgive me for being such a chicken. I think I can’t do anything without a plan, a purpose, an outline, and a good handle on the probable outcome? What is wrong with me. Am I so hard-headed that I can’t remember that YOU are the outcome…that you “got this.” Help me to recover a sense of playfulness in doing ministry and help me to remember that all is well. All is well because of you.  Amen.

DayLight Scripture –

I am the true vine, and my Father is the vineyard keeper. He removes any of my branches that don’t produce fruit, and he trims any branch that produces fruit so that it will produce even more fruit.

John 15: 1-2

DayLight Prayer – Lord, this day comes at us too quickly. The Sabbath, when we are supposed to be ready, even anxious to meet with our sisters and brothers, to pray, to ask forgiveness, to give our offerings, to be restored and renewed…but Lord I’m not ready. The week has pounded me like a shell in the surf. I’m too broken to be ready. Maybe just today, you can be ready for me, I pray.  Amen.

DayLight Scripture –

I called out to the Lord in my distress, and he answered me.
From the belly of the underworld I cried out for help;
you have heard my voice.

Jonah 2:2

DayLight Prayer – Lord, for all of us who find ourselves in the belly of the underworld, I pray. I pray for your light, your sustenance, your salvation, and your peace. Forgive us and help us. Then Lord, give us the strength and presence of mind to forgive and help others.  Amen.

DayLight Scripture –

God rules with power forever; keeps a good eye on the nations. So don’t let the rebellious exalt themselves.

Psalm 66:7

DayLight Prayer – Gracious God. Thank you for this beautiful country that you have blessed me to live in. We, as a people, are strong and resilient, especially when we aim to follow you and the outlines of life that you enable us to see in Jesus. But sadly, some of our country men and women are oblivious to you, the poor, the needy, and the hurting. Since I know that you see exactly what is going on, my prayer today is for your mercy and grace to prevail over our land and to help each one of us to see beyond ourselves.  Amen.

DayLight Scripture –

God didn’t give us a spirit that is timid but one that is powerful, loving, and self-controlled.

2 Timothy 1:7

DayLight Prayer – Ah Lord, Today my prayer is just for this spirit of Christ in me. With tons of work, visits, errands, thoughts, prayers, and other things to do, help me save a big portion of my energy for the best things and whisper to me exactly what they are. I love you, Lord.   Amen.

DayLight Scripture –

Instead of each person watching out for their own good, watch out for what is better for others.

Philippians 2:4

DayLight Prayer – Lord, These words are just what I need today. They remind me of how I am to think of others, and I need to be reminded. Help me to remember that you never watched out for yourself, but gave everything for my benefit.  Amen.

DayLight Scripture –

The Lord is good and does the right thing;
he teaches sinners which way they should go.
God guides the weak to justice,
teaching them his way.

Psalm 25: 8-9

DayLight Prayer – Lord, these words are a blessing to me today. I know through them that I can count on you to faithfully guide me and all of us who are weak and bound by sin.  Help me to live this day beyond the loads of trouble that try to consume me. Give me your championship ways.  Amen.

DayLight Scripture –

As Jesus approached the road leading down from the Mount of Olives, the whole throng of his disciples began rejoicing. They praised God with a loud voice because of all the mighty things they had seen.  They said, “Blessings on the king who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest heavens.”

Luke 19: 37-38

DayLight Prayer – Lord, Today is a day of rejoicing in very fact that I am alive. You have given me this day, and I ask that you help me make the most of it. If I have things that frustrate me, torment me, or sadden me, I pray that you coach me in handling each thing with grace. Let your spirit motivate me.  Amen.
