Daylight Scripture- We escaped like a bird from the hunters’ trap; the trap was broken so we escaped! Our help is in the name of the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.
Psalm 124: 7-8
Daylight Prayer – O God, death is one trap that we constantly try to escape. By and by, it succeeds to catch us, but thanks be to God…you have broken the trap of death for all who believe in you. We live in Christ who never dies. Traps and snares will never contain us! Amen.
Daylight Scripture – Lord, you have been our help, generation after generation. Before the mountains were born, before you birthed the earth and the inhabited world—from forever in the past to forever in the future, you are God.
Psalm 90: 1-2
Daylight Prayer – Holy God of us all, when I listen to the older ones among us, they tell of the hard years of days gone by. In the same breath, they speak of you and how you have kept them. I know Lord that the way is not always easy, the future is unknown to us, and there are frightful events happening everyday, but as Moses has said…you are God. I am grateful that you are God. Amen.
Daylight Scripture – So we glory in God at all times and give thanks to your name forever.
Psalm 44: 8
Daylight Prayer – Lord, I am exceedingly thankful for another year of life, the one past and the one to come. Even though I do not know what the new year will bring, I trust that you are there in every moment. I have nothing to fear. Let me be a light for someone along the way. Amen.
From The Good Disciple
Daylight Scripture – When Pentecost Day arrived, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound from heaven like the howling of a fierce wind filled the entire house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be individual flames of fire alighting on each one of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit enabled them to speak.
Acts 2: 1-4
Daylight Prayer – Good Lord, as we begin a new year, help us to take on the language of the Spirit so that we can speak the love of God in new and diverse languages. Build our hearts with the strength of your mercy, and help us to be a tower of your grace speaking light to all we meet. Amen.
Daylight Scripture – “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”
Daylight Prayer – Lord, I thank you for the great good news of the gospel. What other words have so much to offer to people who are not yet hooked on Jesus?! Grateful and happy to have been caught by the amazing love of God and held tight by God’s everlasting family! Amen.
Daylight Scripture – You have searched me and know me Lord.
Daylight Prayer – Lord, thank you for reminding me just whose I am. I am your created person, with no other purpose than to be that…yours. Help me to realize daily that all of me is unhidden from you…the inside parts, the outside parts, the unconscious parts, the conscious parts, the words, the thoughts, the desires, the intentions, the deeds…every bit of me. Gracious God, keep me I pray. Amen.
Daylight Scripture – Fools say in their hearts, “There’s no God.”
Daylight Prayer – Lord, forgive us when we say and act like you are not our creator, that you do not exist for us, that you are not the sole reason for our existence, that you are not. Let the people say…something different. Let the people say…as you said…You are. Amen. and Amen.
Daylight Scripture – Be still (will you?) and know that I am God.
Daylight Prayer – Lord, I admit that I am rarely still. The busyness of my life, the gadgets I have, the people I see, and the things I do leaves me so exhausted. Then stillness brings slumber. Please forgive me for not putting my time of stillness and knowing first. Help me when I am still to listen for your voice. Amen.
Daylight Scripture – If you kept track of sins, Lord…my Lord, who would stand a chance?
Daylight Prayer – Lord I know that I stand in need of prayer because of all the things I do and have done wrong. Sins against you and neighbor, which are against you too. I haven’t always done as you have commanded me, and I have neglected my solitude and prayer time. But, you know all. You were there with me when all of them happened. You watched me foul up time and time again. If it were not for your forgiveness, I would be lost! Undone. Dead. But instead, because of the faith and grace of your son, Jesus given to me, I am not. I am forgiven, and I have been set free from that existence. I am grateful. Praise be the name of the Lord. Amen.
Daylight Scripture – If I have the gift of prophecy and I know all the mysteries and everything else, and if I have such complete faith that I can move mountains but I don’t have love, I’m nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:2
Daylight Scripture – Lord, I admit that there are moments when I am not filled with your love. I look at the things that go on around me. I see what evils are perpetrated upon the innocent. I heard the news of death and devastation caused by random violence…and it hurts my heart. My heart breaks and the love that you have given me seems to fall out through the cracks. I know that I must seek you every – single – day just to persevere. And I know and I witness to the truth that you are there and so is your love to fill me again, eternally. Thanks be to God. Amen.
