1 Corinthians 4:12

Daylight Prayer – My Lord, I am grateful that you lived a while in this world. You understand. Grant me peace today, since I may become frazzled on a Monday! Let your peace envelope me so that I do not harm a soul! I ask it in your mercy. Amen.

Numbers 6: 24-26

Daylight Prayer – Lord, if I can be of any good use to you today, I ask that you let my face be such that your light will shine from it and be a blessing to others. My face is pretty old, splotchy and lined, but I know you are a miracle maker. Amen.

Daylight Scripture – “Whenever you give to the poor, don’t blow your trumpet as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets so that they may get praise from people. I assure you, that’s the only reward they’ll get. But when you give to the poor, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing so that you may give to the poor in secret. Your Father who sees what you do in secret will reward you.”

Matthew 6: 2-4

Daylight Prayer – Lord, these words of Jesus instruct me to be sure I do not brag about what I do for others. Maybe what you are getting at is that what I should brag about is what others have done for me. In giving, we receive the blessings from God. Help me to only look to receive what God has for me instead of a feather for my own hat! Amen.

Daylight Scripture- We escaped like a bird from the hunters’ trap; the trap was broken so we escaped! Our help is in the name of the Lordthe maker of heaven and earth.

Psalm 124: 7-8

Daylight Prayer – O God, death is one trap that we constantly try to escape. By and by, it succeeds to catch us, but thanks be to God…you have broken the trap of death for all who believe in you. We live in Christ who never dies.  Traps and snares will never contain us!  Amen.

Daylight ScriptureLord, you have been our help, generation after generation. Before the mountains were born, before you birthed the earth and the inhabited world—from forever in the past to forever in the future, you are God.

Psalm 90: 1-2

Daylight Prayer – Holy God of us all, when I listen to the older ones among us, they tell of the hard years of days gone by. In the same breath, they speak of you and how you have kept them. I know Lord that the way is not always easy, the future is unknown to us, and there are frightful events happening everyday, but as Moses has said…you are God. I am grateful that you are God. Amen.

From The Good Disciple

Daylight Scripture – When Pentecost Day arrived, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound from heaven like the howling of a fierce wind filled the entire house where they were sitting.  They saw what seemed to be individual flames of fire alighting on each one of them.  They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit enabled them to speak.

Acts 2: 1-4

Daylight Prayer – Good Lord, as we begin a new year, help us to take on the language of the Spirit so that we can speak the love of God in new and diverse languages. Build our hearts with the strength of your mercy, and help us to be a tower of your grace speaking light to all we meet.  Amen.
